Path of the Poetic Heart

A 10 week online Open Floor 'Art in Motion' journey
Led by Rata Gordon, Poet, Open Floor Teacher, Arts Therapist

We have been looking out
through little panes of coloured glass

Poetry offers us a doorway
to the entire world

More than a way of writing, poetry is a way of being awake and intimate with the world. When we live as a poet we dislodge our habitual, logical and critical ways of seeing, and find ourselves in an expanded field of perception.

‘Path of the Poetic Heart’ is an intimate 10 week online group programme for sensitive and courageous humans to awaken the power of their ‘inner poets’ so that they can experience the freedom of potent and joyful self-expression through creative writing, and write a pile of poems they are proud of.

This is for you if:
  • You long to write poetry (whether you  consider yourself a 'writer' or a ‘poet’ or not)
  • You want to feel deeply connected to your inner and outer worlds and fluidly self-expressed through words
  • Creative writing is something that lights you up, but you find yourself procrastinating, feeling blocked, uninspired, or inhibited
  • You’ve tried writing alone, but you struggle to get into a state of flow and stay there
  • You crave a support system to consistently get alive, potent words on the page, and craft them into forms that feel good

When you sign up to work intimately with the fire of creativity, anything can happen! My hope and intention when you go on this journey you will:
  • Develop a strong positive relationship with your ‘inner poet’
  • Learn tools to move through creative blocks with joy, and access a state of flow
  • Feel the fire of full creative self-expression, and write about the things that really matter to you
  • Learn poetic craft and revision techniques that support your writing to come alive rather than stifle it
  • Write a pile of poems you’re proud of and build confidence sharing your work with others

What’s included:
  • Ten weekly group Zoom sessions (2 hours long) weaving together Open Floor movement and writing practices to support you to clear creative blocks and find freedom in the written word
  • Craft exercises and readings to help you to hone the art of reading, writing and revising poetry
  • The opportunity to 'workshop' your poems and receive in-depth feedback so you can re-enter your drafts feeling inspired, and finally finish some poems
  • Weekly ‘writing dates’ with a fellow writer to support your writing habit
  • An intimate online forum to share work and connect with other poetic hearts.
  • A one-on-one 60 minute mentoring session with Rata

Fully booked for 2022.

FAQ

I've never written a poem before, can I join in?
Absolutely! This course will be valuable for people who are experienced writers, and those who 'feel poetic on the inside' but have struggled to get words on the page.

Do I need to be able-bodied to participate?
In my world, if you can breathe, you can dance. The movement explorations in the Zoom sessions are accessible to people of all physical abilities.

Will workshopping be scary?
I hope not! The intention with workshopping your poetry is that you become excited to revisit your drafts and try out new things.

Are scholarships available?
Yes, a number of scholarships are available.

If you want to be there, but don’t have the funds, get in touch. Payment plans are also available.

How much time will this take each week?
The weekly Zoom sessions are 2 hours long. Weekly writing dates are 20 minutes and are scheduled at your convenience. Most weeks you will also be asked to read and comment on a fellow writer’s work. You are invited to work on your poems between sessions if you are able, however this is not a requirement.
